I remember a field
Full of green grass and flowers A picnic blanket on the ground Two bikes, thrown to the side and forgotten I remember the sun Shining down around us But even that warmth Paled in comparison To the warmth in my heart At being by your side I remember a classroom Sitting at a table Looking into your eyes And laughing as we worked I remember a game A friendly competition But most of all, I remember Your eyes shining when you won I remember a kingdom Where everything was perfect It was more of a home to me Than my very own bed I remember escaping Running with you to that place In the beauty of your mind As we fled from The terrors of the world Hand in hand I remember a girl Whose face lit up when she saw me Who cracked a million jokes Who told a million stories I remember a girl Who loved me more than life Who loved me more than death Who’d write stories just for me Who wanted me around She was calm and she was patient She was funny and she was sweet She was broken and she was soft She was everything I wanted And so much more That girl was my future This one, I’m not so sure I’ve constantly been left It’s the story of my life Something about me Makes people who seem to care Run away I never thought you’d leave You promised me you wouldn’t But now you’re not the girl That I remember You don’t light up to see me You don’t run away Hand in hand To worlds of our own creation There’s no escape for me From what you’ve become My girl that I remember Where did you go?
