Between light and shadow http://writersrelief.com/2018/12/14/125-of-the-best-poetry-writing-prompts-for-poets-writers-relief/ TW: Swearing NOTE: I’m not following this prompt exactly. When I think of light and shadow I just have to think of good and evil (I’m a fantasy author I can’t help it), so this is a poem from the perspective of one of my characters. I already wrote a song for him called “I See Red”. Anyways, enjoy the poem! I learned from a very young age That people don’t let their true colors show Until you get closer to them They won’t tell you what they know Everyone hides themselves behind their good qualities-we’re all the same. No one’s who they seem to be I just say it without shame So I learned to not get close Or people will stab you in the back After all, it’s about what happens Not how you react I’m not bad enough to be a villain I’m not good enough to save the day No one looks to me for opinions I just go along on my way Because no one really wins At least, not those two sides The only people who have a chance Are the ones who save their own hides So what if I’m between light and shadow? I don’t care if I’m between evil and good I’m going to continue on through life Not giving a rat’s ass Even though all of you say I should Cause I’ll always be between light and shadow I’ll never fit in with evil or good In the middle’s where I belong So I’ll be right here Go ahead, move along I’ll be right here in between light and shadow
