Writing Prompt Wednesday #37

What if you discovered a portal to another world? Where is the portal? How does it work? What’s on the other side? https://www.wattpad.com/47523393-1200-creative-writing-prompts-fiction-writing

NOTE: So this prompt reminded me of Quest For A Cure, so I thought I’d write a (really) short bit expanding one of the last scenes of Damian going back to Pandora.

Damian stared at the portal, the orange and yellow flashes of light swirling around him like a vortex. The crackling of energy filled his ears and the pure force of the power blew his hair back.
The portal welcomed him, but also warned him. He knew that if he didn’t jump through now, he probably wouldn’t ever return to that world. But if he did go...he wasn’t confident that he could come back.
He lived in two worlds now. This is how his mother must’ve felt all of the time. He understood now why she never told him of this place. She had spent her entire life there, in that place. It was hard for Damian to be away from it for a couple days even though he’d only been there for a short while. Rani had only wanted to protect him, spare him the pain he felt now. That she felt for her entire life.
It would be so easy to stay here. He could go back to school, live with Lillith. Start a life here. No one would ever have to know about his adventure. He could move past it.
But even as he thought this, he knew it wasn’t true. He could never move past this. He’d never forget the world full of magic. He’d never forget the girl who he’d met. Who he’d fallen in love with. He couldn’t-he wouldn’t-forget her.
He looked back at the portal. Its power was dying already, faltering in and out of existence. Growing smaller. He didn’t have much longer.
Damian sighed heavily, then took a step towards the portal. Then another. Then another. He held his hand out it, felt the power surge into his skin. Smiling softly, he looked around the room for the last time. Then he fell into the portal. He was going home.
